After experiencing the loss of Katie, I felt such a deep sadness. As a mother, the loss of a child is the most difficult thing to go through in one’s life. I began to feel a compassion for other mothers (and grandmothers) who have lost a child and I wanted to do something that could ease their pain, if only a little bit. After prayer, I felt the Lord’s clear direction to assemble comfort baskets.

In the basket, I put a beautiful china tea cup with saucer, tea bag, journal, devotional, candle, photo album, and some goodies. For a little while, I would like the mom (or grandma) to sit back and reflect on God’s grace and sustaining strength, even at a time like this. I would invite them to write down their thoughts or memories of their precious child, or perhaps place some special pictures in the photo album. The love and memories of their child will forever be in their hearts and can never be taken away.

Because of all of the comfort I have received from the Lord and from other people, I want to give comfort to others. As the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” If you know of anyone suffering a loss of a child or grandchild, please contact me at I would be happy to get a basket to you or send one to the right place.

What a beautiful ministry. Yesterday would have been my son’s 6th bday and I have been grieving worse than I did the first year. Through an amazing church, lots of prayer and time in the bible, I am making my way on this path. Thank you for being there to help others on this journey called grief. It can seem so lonely at times. Peace to you..

I received a beautiful basket about a month after my son’s death and the timing was perfect. I had been in the bed all day having a rough time crying out to Jesus. When I got out of bed that afternoon I found the FedEx box at my door step. My son died April 29th 2013. He also had attended Rockford Focus One formerly Masters Commission. I feel this ministry that God has called you to is a true Blessing I am reading the book you put in the basket and have almost finished it “Within Heaven’s Gates” I cannot wait to be reunited with my son and see the wonderful place that God has prepared for those that know and love him. I pray you will keep hearing stories of how your Katie helped to change others lifes. I hear similar stories about my son Austin we had almost 600 in attendance at his home going service and they were from every walk of life. He was not perfect but he told me many times “Mom if I love Jesus and love people I will make a difference” We have a youth bible study started called “Chase Change” in he memory.
